1. Focus and Scope

The Book Portal of Editora Coleta Científica is an initiative that aims to gather, organize and widely disseminate open access digital books edited and published by the Publisher and by the academic units, research centers and other areas of the institution. The Portal uses the Open Monograph Press (OMP) platform, a free software developed by Public Project Knowledge (PKP) to support the activity of open access digital book publishing, with a focus on university publishing houses.

Among OMP's many features is its ability to...

Handle edited volumes, with different authors for each chapter;
Involve editors, authors, reviewers, designers, indexers, and others in the production of the book;
See submission through multiple rounds of internal and external reviews;
Use the ONIX industry standard for metadata requirements from bookstores (e.g. Amazon);
Create document libraries for submissions, save contracts, permissions, etc;
Manipulate thumbnail covers in the Catalog, as well as Spotlight features.

OMP is free and open source software released under the GPL v2 open source license, and you can download, use, and modify it at no cost.

PKP Publishing Services also offers a paid service that provides installation and hosting of OMP, as well as performing daily backups of your data, applying security patches and updates, and responding to your support questions as a matter of priority. All revenue generated from the hosting service goes to the development of the PKP software and to support the Public Knowledge Project.

3. Peer Review Process

The material is sent to consultants and reviewers, who will decide about the convenience of publication, in whole or in part, sending suggestions and possible corrections to the author. Editora Coleta Científica adopts as its evaluation policy the "double blind peer review" system, promoted by members of its body of reviewers, registered on the publisher's website. Submitted texts undergo an initial formal evaluation by the editorial team, which may request corrections and additions. Texts that do not meet the Publishing House's scope, that do not comply with mandatory requirements, will be archived.

The publication of book chapters is subject to the double blind peer review procedure.
2. The works are sent without identification of authorship to two "ad hoc" reviewers, holders of Doctoral degree, linked to Coleta Científica Publishers.
3. In case of controversy between the reviewers, the chapter is submitted to a third reviewer.
4. 4. The referees are always PhD Professors affiliated to renowned institutions of higher education in Brazil and abroad.
5.The criteria used in the evaluation form are the following:
(a)Is the referee in a position to evaluate the chapter because there is no conflict of interest?
b)Does the title clearly and sufficiently reflect the chapter's contents?
c)Does the chapter comply with the publisher's methodological standards?
d)Does the chapter present a scientific analysis of the topic?
e)Is there coherence and logic in the development of the theme?
f)Do the conclusions correspond to the premises of the research?
g)Are the bibliographical references sufficient, adequate and up-to-date?
h)Are the concepts used throughout the text, in general, correct?
i) Is the content in accordance to the criteria of not disseminating prejudice and/or defamation and slander that harm the integrity of the readers and/or individuals cited?
j) Use this space to make general or specific comments you deem pertinent.
The possible results of the evaluation process are as follows:
(a)chapter with no restrictions on scientific content; can be accepted for publication.
b)chapter with minor restrictions; can be accepted after author's review; does not need a new technical opinion.
c)chapter with major content restrictions; it should not be accepted for publication.
The evaluation process usually takes from 2 to 5 months.
The rejection rate of book chapters in the year 2019 was 62%.

4. Periodicity

The Editora Coleta Científica is an open access, electronic, scientific journal, published twice a year with continuous publication, which receives submissions of unpublished papers in continuous flow, in Portuguese, Spanish or English.

The journal publishes two issues per year, released each semester, which together make up a volume. Each chapter is published within an issue with its own table of contents. The periodicity of publication is biannual, with one issue every 6 months:

Issue for January/June: continuous publication from January to June
July/December issue: continuous publication from July to December

09. Ethics Policy and Guidelines for Good Practice in Publication

This publisher has a commitment to ethics and quality of publications, following international standards in scientific publishing. We advocate ethical behavior from all parties involved in the publication in our publishing house: authors, editor, referees, Editorial Team and the Publisher. We do not accept plagiarism or any other unethical behavior. To this end, the guidelines of the 2nd World Conference on Research Integrity, Singapore, July 22-24, 2010 are followed.

Duties of the Editor:

Publication decision: the editor is responsible for deciding which Book Chapters submitted to the publisher should be published. The editor is guided by the policies decided by the Editorial Board. These policies must comply with current legal requirements on defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. In making decisions, the editor may consult the Editorial Board and the referees.
Transparency and respect: the editor should evaluate submitted manuscripts without regard to authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnicity, nationality, or political philosophy.
Confidentiality: the editor and other members of the editorial team should not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript other than to the referees and editorial advisors.
Disclosure and conflicts of interest: The editor should not use unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript in their own research without the author's express written consent. The editor should decline to evaluate manuscripts in which he or she has conflicts of interest due to competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or (possibly) institutions connected to the manuscripts.
Involvement and cooperation in investigations: the editor should take appropriate action when ethical complaints have been made about a submitted manuscript or published chapter.

Duties of the Reviewers:

Contribution to editorial decisions: reviewers' review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and through communications with the author may also assist the author in improving the Chapter.
Timeliness: any chapter reviewer who does not feel qualified to review the chapter or knows that it will be impossible to read it immediately should notify the editor immediately.
Confidentiality: papers received for review should be treated as confidential documents. They should not be shown or discussed with others.
Objectivity standards: reviews should be conducted in an objective manner. Reviewers should express their points of view clearly and supported by arguments.
On sources: referees should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. The reviewer should bring to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript in question and any other published chapter of which they have personal knowledge.
Disclosure and conflict of interest: privileged information or insights gained by the referee through reading the manuscripts should be kept confidential and not used for personal gain. The referee should not evaluate manuscripts in which he/she has conflicts of interest due to competitive, collaborative or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies or institutions connected to the manuscripts.

Authors' duties:

General rules: authors of papers that refer to original research should provide an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Additional data should be accurately represented in the chapter. The paper should contain sufficient detail and references to allow others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or intentionally inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.
Originality and plagiarism: authors must ensure that works are entirely original and if they use the work and/or texts of others that this is properly cited. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical editorial behavior and is unacceptable.
Multiple or redundant publication: an author should not publish manuscripts that essentially describe the same research in more than one scientific/academic body. Publishing the same chapter in more than one publisher without informing the editors and obtaining their consent constitutes unethical editorial behavior and is unacceptable.
About sources: the work of other authors should always be acknowledged. Authors should cite publications that were important in determining the nature of the work reported. Information obtained privately, such as in a conversation, correspondence, or discussion with a third party, should not be used or reported without the explicit written permission of the source. Information obtained through confidential services, such as manuscript referees or grant applications, should not be used without the explicit written permission of the author of the work involved in these services.
Authorship: authorship of the work should be restricted to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study reported. All those who made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Persons who participated in certain aspects of the research project should be listed as collaborators. The lead author should ensure that all appropriate coauthors are included in the Chapter. The lead author should also make sure that all coauthors have seen and approved the final version of the manuscript and have agreed to its submission for publication.
Disclosure and conflicts of interest: all authors must disclose in the manuscript any financial or other conflicts that may influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.
Fundamental errors in published work: when an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work it is the author's obligation to immediately inform the publisher's editor or the Journal Editors and cooperate with the editor to correct the Chapter.

Plagiarism Analysis

Papers submitted for evaluation will undergo technical review for plagiarism analysis with the program acquired and licensed by Editora Coleta Científica the "Plagius - Professional Plagiarism Detector 2.5.4." The editorial team checks the data. In the case of direct citations (even mentioning the source), the maximum allowed is 25%. In the case of plagiarism or self-plagiarism, the author will be informed that he/she must reference the source, and the maximum allowed is 25%. Above this, the chapter is returned, with an indication of the problem. At this stage, the authors have a chance to make the necessary changes and resubmit the chapter to the Publisher. Cases of plagiarism reported to the Publisher after the book chapters have been published will be analyzed by the Editorial Committee and, if the complaint is confirmed, the chapter will be withdrawn from the Publisher immediately. Penalties may also be applied to the authors.

We suggest authors to be familiar with the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines on ethical principles in scientific publication.
